Target Buyers Not Visitors

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

When thinking about your keyword rankings and getting traffic to your site you need to think about the types of keywords you are working on. If you are in any kind of competitive niche you want to start with “long tailed keywords” which are those phrases that usually contain four or more words.  While these key phrases get less searches than the one or two word keywords they are usually easier to get to the top of the rankings and in a lot of cases they are more targeted towards your product or site.

You especially want to try and find the search phrases that people who are actually looking to spend money enter in during their search.  Think about which person is more likely to pull out their wallet and buy, (more…)

SEO Tools and Research

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

When trying to raise your site ranking in Google there are two main things to look at. First we have on site content, second we have backlinks. Obviously on site content is needed and for the most part self explanatory, you need good content targeted towards your main subject and keywords.  The backlink situation is a much more complex issue. You have all kinds of questions. What kinds of links? From what types of site? What particular sites are best in my niche? The list goes on. The question then is how do you find out the information you need to build the backlinks to your site that will make Google put your site to the top of the rankings.  (more…)

Twitter Conclusion

I have spent quite a bit of time researching and working with twitter and I have to be honest. It is not really my thing and I am not every going to be a good enough expert (or anything really close) to give meaningful advice on the best way to get the most out of it. So what I did was try and find someone who seems to be and I believe that I have. Check out the FREE Ebook that Samantha Milner has on her site that explains how to get the most out your twitter account better than I ever could. She will try and sell you some stuff of course but even if you are not interested in purchasing anything it is well worth putting up with a couple of sales pages to get the info in the free book.

Hope you find this useful

Richard

Twitter Part 1

Well the last week has been a bit crazy so this is a few days later than I planned. My little twitter tool should be up this week.

Twitter more than any of the other methods I have been discussing is something that some people will want to use more than others. It is more social and does take a certain amount of regular input on an at least daily basis. It is not going to be something that everyone will either be comfortable with or have the time to do. Personally it is not really something that seems to work for me on both a personality level and for the time commitment but there are quite a few people that have had success using it.

If you do not have a twitter account you will need to go to twitter.com and open one up. You can have multiple accounts but you will need to have a separate email account for each one. I would suggest you open an account with your name if available ( or some variation) and your business or website name as well. (more…)

What are the search engines looking for?

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Basically there are two components to work on when trying to increase your websites ranking, off site and on site. What you need off site is fairly simple, you need backlinks to your site from other sites with related content. Getting links from sites that have nothing in common with you is not going to do you any good, the sites need to be as closely related as possible. Also the better ranked the site linking to yours is the more weight the link will carry with Google and the other search engines. (more…)
